RESOLUTION URGING CONGRESS TO

             2
WITHDRAW THE UNITED STATES FROM THE

             3
UNITED NATIONS

             4
2003 GENERAL SESSION

             5
STATE OF UTAH

             6
Sponsor: Don E. Bush

             7      This resolution of the House of Representatives urges the United States Congress to
             8      withdraw the membership of the United States of America from the United Nations so
             9      that the United States may retain its sovereignty and control over its own funds and
             10      military forces.
             11      Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the state of Utah:
             12          WHEREAS, the United States is the greatest nation in the world and is known for its
             13      compassionate people who are generous and kind in caring for the needs of those in other
             14      countries and whose resources are used worldwide to alleviate hunger and poverty;
             15          WHEREAS, the United States is called upon to defend the rights and freedoms of
             16      people in other nations as only we have the capacity to do so as a world superpower;
             17          WHEREAS, these responsibilities create an immense burden on the citizens of this
             18      country, many of whom are in need and living in poverty themselves;
             19          WHEREAS, United States military forces are called upon to bear the brunt of any
             20      conflicts that may arise while other nations stay on the sidelines and expect the United States to
             21      fight its battles;
             22          WHEREAS, the United States provides the largest share of the financial burden for the
             23      United Nations, paying hundreds of millions of dollars each year that could be used to address
             24      many of the nation's challenges, including homelessness, education, law enforcement, poverty,
             25      a strong military, and the war against terrorism; and
             26          WHEREAS, many of the members of the United Nations are not friendly to the United
             27      States and support many things that are detrimental to the country and against its interests, yet

             28      expect the United States to provide the finances and manpower to solve all of the world's
             29      problems, even putting the lives of the nation's military forces in danger:
             30          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
             31      state of Utah respectfully but firmly requests that the United States Congress take measures to
             32      dissolve the membership of the United States in the United Nations, thereby freeing the nation
             33      from a large financial burden and retaining its sovereignty to decide what is best for the country
             34      and the steps that it considers appropriate as the leader of the free world, with full control of its
             35      armed forces and destiny.
             36          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the President of
             37      the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and the
             38      members of Utah's congressional delegation.
